A Place of Walking Lights is a penthouse apartment on the 20th floor of the Situla building, which is just a short walk from Ljubljana’s main train station. The apartment offers a breath-taking view over the city – with Ljubljana Castle on one side and the Alps on the other – and it has a spacious terrace running around it.

The entrance is designed as a narrow, cosy shell covered with oiled oak panels that add warmth and a smell of wood, while also ensuring an expansive view. We left the living area completely open and connected the two spaces with a corridor – its main wall is made from Callacata Marble and, illuminated with Occhio lighting, this is the backbone of the main space. It is divided with wooden panels through which one can sense the beauty of the illuminated pattern of the Callacata. We chose the stone carefully in order to make sure the panels open like the pages of a book. These materials are themselves a work of art within the apartment.

This area is divided into three zones: the kitchen, the dining area, and the living room. The fireplace, which blocks the view of the train station, forms the visual centre of this area. The texture of the marvellous French herringbone oak parquet binds the space into a whole. Elegant white curtains gently grace the windows, creating a soft atmosphere made even softer in combination with the velvety textures of the furniture.

The left wing of the apartment is for family and friends who are staying the night. The right wing contains the master bedroom, with its walk-in closet and bathroom, and it offers a magnificent view of the Alps. The bathroom is designed to look like a picture set within a frame. The rich wood structure behind the bed lends warmth and comfort to the place one sleeps.

The entire design of this penthouse – from the first to the final detail – has followed the basic sense of light and shadows, of materials and patterns. Together, this combining creates a modern, elegant and sophisticated atmosphere. A place of walking lights one can call Home.
